Public bug reported:
lightdm 1.32.0-6ubuntu1 (plucky) renamed the -dev package to the Debian
name liblightdm-gobject-dev and added:
Conflicts: liblightdm-gobject-1-dev (<< 1.32.0)
Replaces: liblightdm-gobject-1-dev (<< 1.32.0)
Provides: liblightdm-gobject-1-dev
with the changelog note "The Provides can be dropped when reverse build
dependencies are updated, and the Breaks/Replaces can be dropped after
the next LTS."
The LTS (resolute) is released, so the Conflicts/Replaces can go now.
The Provides is still used by these packages in stonking, which only
Build-Depend on liblightdm-gobject-1-dev:
- indicator-keyboard 0.0.0+19.10.20240924-0ubuntu4
- lightdm-gtk-greeter 2.0.9-0ubuntu3.1
- unity-greeter 25.04.1-0ubuntu1
The Provides also causes problems: with "lightdm-vala | liblightdm-
gobject-1-dev" build-dependencies, the alternative is satisfied by
liblightdm-gobject-dev, so lightdm-vala (which ships the vapi) is never
installed and valac can't find liblightdm-gobject-1. That's why arctica-
greeter FTBFS (bug #2120577). slick-greeter 2.2.5-1 has the same
pattern.
Plan for the next cycle (too late to change lightdm for this one):
1. Switch indicator-keyboard, lightdm-gtk-greeter and unity-greeter to
liblightdm-gobject-dev (plus lightdm-vala where the vapi is needed).
2. Drop the Provides/Conflicts/Replaces from lightdm.
