**Confirmed workaround for GNOME Sushi video previews on Ubuntu 26.04.1
with NVIDIA/Wayland**

I experienced the same error and conducted several tests to isolate the
problem.

**System configuration:**
- Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (Resolute)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
- NVIDIA driver 595.99.02
- Wayland session
- GStreamer 1.28.2

**Diagnostic findings:**

1. `gtkglsink` fails with "Failed to initialize OpenGL with Gtk" under native
Wayland.
2. `GDK_GL=gles` allows the GStreamer pipeline to run, but the video window
remains black.
3. `videotestsrc ! videoconvert ! gtksink` displays video correctly.
4. `videotestsrc ! glimagesink` produces a black window under Wayland.
5. Forcing X11/GLX successfully renders video with BOTH `glimagesink` and
`gtkglsink`.

The following command successfully renders the GStreamer test pattern:

```bash
GDK_BACKEND=x11 GST_GL_WINDOW=x11 GST_GL_PLATFORM=glx \
gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc num-buffers=150 ! glsinkbin sink=gtkglsink
```

**Confirmed workaround for Nautilus/Sushi:**

Starting the actual previewer executable with these variables restores
video playback:

```bash
GDK_BACKEND=x11 GST_GL_WINDOW=x11 GST_GL_PLATFORM=glx \
/usr/libexec/org.gnome.NautilusPreviewer
```

To make the workaround persistent, I created:

`~/.local/share/dbus-1/services/org.gnome.NautilusPreviewer.service`

With the following contents:

```ini
[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.gnome.NautilusPreviewer
Exec=/usr/bin/env GDK_BACKEND=x11 GST_GL_WINDOW=x11 GST_GL_PLATFORM=glx
/usr/libexec/org.gnome.NautilusPreviewer
```

After reloading the user D-Bus configuration and restarting the
previewer, Nautilus video previews now work normally when pressing
Space.

This workaround does not require changing NVIDIA drivers or switching
the entire desktop away from Wayland.

The evidence suggests an issue involving GStreamer's native
Wayland/OpenGL rendering path, rather than video decoding or the NVIDIA
driver generally. The precise underlying cause remains to be determined.

Title:
  All videos I try to preview using the space bar display the message
  “Failed to initialize openGL with GTK” instead of playing the video
  preview.
