Public bug reported:
May be interesting though specific to HP Zbook Fury 15 G8 could be the case.
Found on HP site:
"ALC285 GPIO AMP init race with SOF topology load on HP ZBook Fury 15 G8 —
Speaker variant intermittently missing from ACP probe."
It seems the hardware has an external speaker amplifier that requires
GPIO initialization from the ALC285 codec. That init is not ready when
SOF DSP routing wants to apply the topology causing the default profile
to intermittently switch and one experiences unstable audio conditions
after login on Plasma 6.
More precisely, wireplumber picks whichever HiFi variant is available
when it probes, and persists that choice. If only the Headphones variant
materialized first, it saves Headphones. The user then has to force
Speaker.
---
I applied a work-around that is the setup of a user-level systemd service that
restarts wireplumber until it finds a profile (5 restarts set, usually takes
3). Then it sets the speaker profile using pactl and reloads the daemon. Works
every time.
---
Launchpad #1930707 added the ALC285_FIXUP_HP_GPIO_AMP_INIT quirk for this exact
PCI SSID (103c:8870). That fix addressed the LED and right-channel-silent
symptoms. The timing race against SOF topology load is another manifestation of
the un-timed sequence between GPIO and SOF/DSP.
