Jammy / Linux Mint 21.3 — 470-server regression remains unresolved

Following the restoration of the regular NVIDIA 470 packages in Jammy
(470.256.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.6), I checked the current situation on my
previously affected system.

System:

-

OS: Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon / Ubuntu Jammy

-

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (Kepler)

-

Working driver: NVIDIA 470.256.02

-

Installed package: nvidia-driver-470-server

-

Installed version: 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.1

Current APT policy reports:

nvidia-driver-470:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.6

nvidia-driver-470-server:
  Installed: 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.1
  Candidate: 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.5

The problematic 470-server transitional version is therefore now the
preferred candidate in both jammy-updates and jammy-security, despite
the restoration of the regular 470 driver.

My initial apt-get -s dist-upgrade showed no immediate NVIDIA package
changes, so I cannot claim this particular system was about to break.
However, none of the installed NVIDIA packages were held, and the newer
transitional version remained the preferred candidate.

As a precaution, I have now placed all 22 installed 470-server packages
on hold, including their i386 libraries, DKMS components and Xorg
driver.

This preserves my currently functioning installation but leaves me
dependent on manually maintained package holds.

I appreciate the work that went into restoring the regular NVIDIA 470
packages. However, the 470-server transition appears to reproduce the
same underlying problem identified in June: an apparently valid upgrade
path leading toward driver branches that do not support Kepler hardware.

Could the maintainers please clarify:

-

Whether the 470-server packages for Jammy and Noble will also be
restored rather than remaining transitional.

-

Whether the published transitional versions can be withdrawn or
superseded to prevent further regressions.

-

Whether affected users should eventually migrate from 470-server to the
restored regular 470 packages, and what the supported migration
procedure would be.

My system remains functional, and I can provide additional package
information or perform non-destructive verification if helpful.

Thank you.
