Public bug reported:

[Summary]
On the ASUS ExpertBook PM5406CGA (AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470) running Ubuntu 26.04.1
LTS
with kernel 7.0.0-38-generic, the internal speakers produce no sound. The sound
card
is detected, PipeWire shows "Speaker - Ryzen HD Audio Controller", playback
"works"
(no errors, volume slider moves), but the speakers stay silent.

[Hardware]
- Codec: Realtek ALC294 (hwC1D0), subsystem_id 0x10433601
- Speaker amplifiers: 2x Cirrus Logic CS35L41 (rev B2) over I2C, ACPI node
CSC3551
- HDA controller: AMD Ryzen HD Audio Controller [1022:15e3] at 64:00.6
- DMI: system-product-name "ASUS EXPERTBOOK PM5406CGA", baseboard "PM5406CGA"

[Cause]
The cs35l41-hda driver probes both amplifiers successfully:
  cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: Cirrus Logic CS35L41 (35a40),
Revision: B2
  cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1: Cirrus Logic CS35L41 (35a40),
Revision: B2

but the Realtek codec has no quirk entry for SSID 1043:3601, so it falls back to
generic pin matching and never binds the CS35L41 amplifiers:
  snd_hda_codec_alc269 hdaudioC1D0: ALC294: picked fixup (pin match)

Without ALC287_FIXUP_CS35L41_I2C_2 the amps are never enabled, hence no
output.

[Upstream fix]
Cirrus Logic posted the quirk upstream in March 2026:
"[PATCH v1 2/2] ALSA: hda/realtek: Add support for ASUS 2026 Commercial
laptops
using CS35L41 HDA" (Stefan Binding, series "Add support for various HP and
ASUS
   laptops using CS35L41 HDA")
It adds, among others:
  SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1043, 0x3601, "ASUS PM5406CGA", ALC287_FIXUP_CS35L41_I2C_2),
  SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1043, 0x3611, "ASUS PM5606CGA", ALC287_FIXUP_CS35L41_I2C_2),
  SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1043, 0x3701, "ASUS P5406CCA", ALC245_FIXUP_CS35L41_SPI_2),
  SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1043, 0x3711, "ASUS P5606CCA", ALC245_FIXUP_CS35L41_SPI_2),
Patch 1/2 of the same series touches cs35l41_hda_property.c for these models and
may be needed alongside it.

This one-line quirk is not present in the Ubuntu 7.0 kernel. Please consider
backporting it (and patch 1/2 if required) to the resolute linux kernel via SRU.
It is a trivial, model-specific table entry with no impact on other hardware.

[Steps to reproduce]
1. Boot Ubuntu 26.04.1 (7.0.0-38-generic) on an ExpertBook PM5406CGA.
2. Play any audio to the internal speakers.
3. No sound; `journalctl -k | grep "picked fixup"` shows an empty fixup name.

[Expected]
Speakers work out of the box, with the codec picking the CS35L41 I2C fixup.

[Workaround]
None without rebuilding the realtek codec module or using a non-Ubuntu kernel.
