**Title:** Desktop Icons NG (DING): Space-bar file preview does not work
on the desktop in Ubuntu 26.04 (GNOME 50)
**Description**
After upgrading from Ubuntu 24.04 to Ubuntu 26.04, pressing the Space
bar to preview a selected file on the desktop no longer works.
In Ubuntu 24.04, selecting a file on the desktop and pressing Space
opened a file preview using GNOME Sushi. After upgrading to Ubuntu
26.04, the same action no longer opens the preview.
The preview still works correctly when selecting a file inside the Files
(Nautilus) application and pressing Space. This suggests that GNOME
Sushi itself is working, while the problem may concern the integration
between Desktop Icons NG (DING) and the preview mechanism.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Start Ubuntu 26.04 with the GNOME desktop.
2. Select a file displayed on the desktop.
3. Press the Space bar.
4. Repeat the same operation with a file inside the Files (Nautilus)
application.
**Expected behaviour**
Pressing Space on a selected file on the desktop should open the same
type of file preview available in Files (Nautilus), as it did in Ubuntu
24.04.
**Actual behaviour**
Pressing Space on a selected file on the desktop does not open a
preview.
The same operation works correctly inside Files (Nautilus).
**System information**
- Operating system: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute)
- Desktop environment: GNOME 50
- Desktop icons extension: Desktop Icons NG (DING)
- DING package: `gnome-shell-ubuntu-extensions`
- DING package version: `50.26.04.8ubuntu`
- GNOME Sushi version: `50.0-0ubuntu0.1`
- Sushi package source: Ubuntu `resolute-updates`, component `universe`
- Nautilus: file preview using Space works correctly
- Desktop: file preview using Space does not work
- Previous operating system: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, where the feature worked
correctly
**Additional information**
GNOME Sushi is installed and updated to version `50.0-0ubuntu0.1`.
Reinstalling Sushi is therefore unlikely to resolve the issue.
The problem appears to be specific to opening file previews from the
desktop, rather than from Nautilus.
Please investigate whether DING needs an update or a compatibility fix
to restore Space-bar preview functionality on the Ubuntu 26.04 desktop.
