Public bug reported:
Hardware and software: Dell XPS 13 9345 (Snapdragon X Elite), Ubuntu
26.10 arm64, kernel 7.3.0-10-generic, PipeWire and WirePlumber 1.6.8,
alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.16.1-1ubuntu1, fresh install.
Problem: Only "Dummy Output" is available at first, and the built-in
card's profile is "off". After I set the profile to HiFi by hand,
"Built-in Audio Speaker playback" appears. Playing any sound (pw-play,
Firefox, GNOME Settings speaker test) never starts. The stream stays in
"paused" and Firefox reports it cannot open the audio output. The GNOME
Settings speaker test crashes the Settings app.
What works: The ADSP boots with qcadsp8380.mbn. The sound card
X1E80100-Dell-XPS-13-9345 registers, and aplay -l shows MultiMedia2
Playback. alsaucm lists the HiFi verb with Speaker and Mic devices. All
WSA and WSA2 mixer controls exist, nothing is muted, and Speakers Volume
is at its maximum of 6.
Kernel log: Right after a playback attempt, dmesg shows "qcom-soundwire
6ab0000.soundwire: qcom_swrm_irq_handler: SWR bus clsh detected". At
boot, the soundwire peripherals sdw:4:0:0217:0204:00:0/1 and
sdw:1:0:0217:0204:00:0/1 log "no matching ACPI device found, ignoring
peripheral", and then "snd-x1e80100 sound: ASoC: Parent card not yet
available, widget card binding deferred". The modules snd_soc_x1e80100,
snd_soc_wsa884x and snd_soc_wsa885x have no module parameters on this
kernel, so the older i_accept_the_danger workaround is unavailable.
Also seen: the video decoder firmware
qcom/x1e80100/dell/xps13-9345/qcvss8380.mbn is missing, which breaks
hardware video decode.
Expected: Speakers produce sound. Actual: the output fails to start and
the soundwire bus reports a clash.
Related: Launchpad bug 2146528 (missing firmware for the 9345). I can
attach full logs on request.
That's the report. To file it with the logs attached automatically, run
this in the Terminal and follow the prompts. It opens a Launchpad page
for you to submit. I haven't filed anything for you.
