Public bug reported:

Hi, the following text is AI-generated:

On a Dell Precision 5490 (Meteor Lake, Dell OEM image, BIOS 1.24.0) running
linux-generic-hwe-24.04 7.0.0-42.42~24.04.1 (upstream 7.0.14), the kernel
oopsed in the
RT712 SDCA DMIC codec driver during a video call (Slack huddle), when
WirePlumber wrote
the DMIC capture gain control:

BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000058
  CPU: 4 UID: 1001 PID: 4754 Comm: wireplumber Tainted: G OE 7.0.0-42-generic
#42~24.04.1-Ubuntu
  RIP: 0010:__dev_printk+0x11/0xa0
  Call Trace:
   _dev_err+0x74/0xa0

   snd_ctl_elem_write+0x106/0x1b0 [snd]
   snd_ctl_ioctl+0x4a3/0x760 [snd]
note: wireplumber[4754] exited with irqs disabled

After the oops, microphone capture was unusable in all applications, and the
IPU6
camera also stopped working ("intel_ipu6_isys: stream on Intel IPU6 CSI2 4
failed with
-22", later -110). Only a reboot recovered. The full trace is attached.

This is the bug fixed upstream by:
0bc42544a4a0 "ASoC: rt712-sdca-dmic: fix drvdata type in the gain controls"
  (Cc: stable, Closes: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2532834)
which is in v7.4-rc1. The 7.0.y stable series is EOL upstream, so the fix will
not
arrive through 7.0.y stable updates. Please cherry-pick it into the 7.0 HWE
kernel.
It is a two-line change; the affected lines are unchanged since the driver was
added in 2023.

Frequency: it happened during the first call on that boot. The microphone is
rarely
used, so the frequency per call is unknown.
