Public bug reported: [Impact] On MT7925 Wi-Fi connections using Multi-Link Operation (MLO), group frames received on secondary links arrive as translated Ethernet frames without a peer station and are rejected by mac80211. The NULL-peer station update configures only the default broadcast WCID, leaving secondary-link entries at firmware defaults.
[Fix] Configure each link's broadcast WCID to retain 802.11 headers after a successful station-link BSS update, allowing station lookup. Add command-success/error counters and request device reset recovery for allocation, missing-WCID and MCU programming failures, including callers that discard the helper's return value. fis: https://github.com/NVIDIA/NV-Kernels/pull/680 ** Affects: linux-nvidia (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: [Impact] On MT7925 Wi-Fi connections using Multi-Link Operation (MLO), group frames received on secondary links arrive as translated Ethernet frames without a peer station and are rejected by mac80211. The NULL-peer station update configures only the default broadcast WCID, leaving secondary-link entries at firmware defaults. [Fix] Configure each link's broadcast WCID to retain 802.11 headers after a successful station-link BSS update, allowing station lookup. Add command-success/error counters and request device reset recovery for allocation, missing-WCID and MCU programming failures, including callers that discard the helper's return value. - [Test Plan] - On MT7925 hardware connected to an MLO-capable access point, exercise group traffic on secondary links and verify that 802.11 headers are retained and peer-station lookup succeeds. Check ordinary single-link traffic and association/disassociation as regression coverage. Exercise allocation, missing-WCID and MCU-programming failure paths and verify recovery is requested. - - [Validation supplied] - The patch author reports tests covering WCID selection, request bounds, TLV fields and fault-injected recovery requests, including a caller that ignores the returned error. The author also reports live captures confirming secondary-link group headers and peer lookup. These results have not been independently reproduced by the reporter. - - [Where problems could occur] - The change affects MT7925 station-link MCU programming and device-reset recovery. Single-link and multi-link operation, including error paths, need regression coverage. - - [Other Info] - Requested for the Ubuntu 26.04 linux-nvidia kernel. Upstream submission is intended, but no upstream patch reference has been supplied yet. + fis: https://github.com/NVIDIA/NV-Kernels/pull/680 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2172838 Title: MT7925: secondary MLO links drop group traffic due to missing header translation setup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-nvidia/+bug/2172838/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
