I can confirm experiencing the same symptoms on a different RX 9070 XT
model.
My configuration:
- Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon
- Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT GAMING OC 16GB
- AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
- Gigabyte X570 Gaming X motherboard
- Kernels tested: 7.0.0-42-generic and 7.0.0-38-generic
Following the upgrade of 'linux-firmware-amd-graphics' from
'20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu3.3' to '0ubuntu3.4' on November 5, the
system stopped reaching the graphical login screen.
The monitor repeatedly lost and regained its signal, while the kernel produced
continuous errors:
ERROR Error queueing DMUB command: status=2
ERROR dc_dmub_srv_log_diagnostic_data: DMCUB error
The problem persisted when booting with the older kernel 7.0.0-38, which had
previously worked.
Booting with 'nomodeset systemd.unit=multi-user.target' allowed me to
access a text console.
I successfully recovered normal graphical operation by restoring a
Timeshift snapshot from November 3, before the problematic update.
Since Timeshift reverted multiple system packages, I cannot
independently confirm that reverting the DMCUB firmware alone resolved
my case. However, the symptoms and timing are consistent with this
report.
Thank you for investigating and documenting the root cause.
