After upgrading linux-firmware-amd-graphics from 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu3.3
to 0ubuntu3.4, the system boots to the splash logo and then all displays turn
off
(no signal). Switching to a TTY (Ctrl+Alt+F2) also stays black.
Tested combinations:
- Kernel 7.0.0-38 + firmware 0ubuntu3.4 -> black screen (broken)
- Kernel 7.0.0-42 + firmware 0ubuntu3.4 -> black screen (broken)
- Kernel 7.0.0-42 + firmware 0ubuntu3.3 -> works
- Kernel 7.0.0-38 + firmware 0ubuntu3.3 -> works
Also reproducible with only one monitor connected.
Hardware: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB (Navi 44, DCN 4.0.1), Ryzen 5 5600X
OS: Linux Mint 22.3 (based on Ubuntu 24.04 noble), HWE kernel
Suspected cause: the dcn401 DMCUB firmware update introduced in 0ubuntu3.4
(LP: #2168847, "amdgpu: update dmcub fw for dcn32 and dcn401").
Workaround: holding linux-firmware-amd-graphics at 0ubuntu3.3.
