I can confirm this issue on Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon.
System:
Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon (Zena)
LightDM 1.30.0-0ubuntu14
xbrlapi 6.6-4ubuntu5
brltty 6.6-4ubuntu5
Intel/NVIDIA hybrid graphics
No Braille display connected
Symptoms:
After entering my password in LightDM, the screen remains black with the
mouse pointer visible for approximately 2 minutes before the Cinnamon
desktop appears.
Root cause identified:
I instrumented /usr/sbin/lightdm-session to measure the execution time
of each script in /etc/X11/Xsession.d.
The measurements showed that:
All other Xsession scripts complete within milliseconds.
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/90xbrlapi takes approximately 134 seconds to
execute.
The delay occurs during the execution of this script, which invokes
/usr/bin/xbrlapi.
Workaround:
Renaming the script:
sudo mv /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90xbrlapi
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/90xbrlapi.disabled
completely eliminates the login delay. The desktop then starts normally.
The brltty.service was inactive (dead) during testing.
This confirms that xbrlapi is responsible for the delay on my system.
I hope these measurements help identify the underlying cause, possibly a
timeout while trying to connect to the BRLAPI server.
