I confirm too, I have same failure than Joel Ebel when booting the beta desktop disc. With the alternate cd, it doesn't find the cd drive or the driver for the drive (I don't remember) and I tried a few drivers in the list it prompts, but no success. Core 2 duo, MSI Neo-F In the same time, I don't know if it's the same bug but : I can install Dapper, and then upgrade to Edgy, but Edgy won't finish booting with 2.6.17-10 kernels. It stops to "booting: Waiting for root filesystem", and then after approx. 4 minutes it says it doesn't find my partition (with UUID or by directly suppling /dev/sdaX). And indeed if I type `ls /dev/sd*` under BusyBox, there's nothing. But with the kernel Dapper I still have, it boots fine (with UUID or with root=/dev/sdaX)
