Thanks for your bugreport.

If update-manager in hardy (or any pre-release version of ubuntu) can
not calculate the upgrade, that is not a bug per-se. It mostly means
that the archive is in a state of flux and a upgrade can not be
calculated without removing ubuntu-desktop (or a similar imortant
package). I fixed the error message in update-managers bzr to make this
more clear.
