Grub Error 18 is usually due to the drive being larger than the BIOS supports. A couple of options would be to update the BIOS and see if that helps. Do you get an error similar to: kernel (hd1,4) /bzImage root=/dev/hdb7 Error 18: Selected cylinder exceeds max supported by BIOS Another thing to look at, if possible, is setting your drive to LBA (Logical Block Addressing) in the BIOS as well.
