i tried installing several gtk themes from gnome-look.org and the problem is allways the same : i click appearance, click the install , browse to the theme.tar.gz,select to open and after that the properties windws disappears. this happens using either compiz or metacity i thought it had something to do with file-roller cause i experience some problems with it so i re-installed but problem still exists. on the other hand gdm themes install fine
