Public bug reported: This is documented well in Question #22913 (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/22913). Long story short is that Ubuntu 7.10 doesn't handle BCM94311MDG WLAN cards out of the box but the instructions at http://invaleed.wordpress.com/2007/11/20 /install-bcm94311mcg-wlan-mini-pci-ubuntu-710/#comment-8087 have worked for me twice and by rough count on the web site another 40 people.
I don't have the technical chops to figure out what isn't working with the default firmware cutter and restricted drivers and what is working with this but it works and is repeatable which should make it close to being fixable. With the exception of getting the microcode distributed which is a licensing issue but that is a different issue.
