Public bug reported: I have upgraded from gutsy to hardy. I have never used pulseaudio before, and haven't touched any sound settings in gutsy or after the distupgrade. Now in hardy whenever i play a file, i get a loud noise and no sound. I found out that killing the pulseaudio instances that were autostarted I get back sound. I'm not sure what that means, I have no experience with this system - and didn't know if I needed to configure something manually. When I kill pulseaudio, it seems the autodetect sink of gstreamer just uses normal alsa and thus it works. It also works then if i keep pulseaudio and manually select alsasink. I also found out that the gstreamer test that creates just a sine sound DOES work, but in totem/rhythmbox with gstreamer it's only the noise. At the same time, aplay or even vlc (which I guess just bypass pulseaudio directly to alsa).
I will gladly supply more information to help debug this or find the problem, but I'll need some guidance :) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- sound is complete noise when pulseaudio is running https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
