Yep, alsa version 1.0.16 is a definite improvement over 1.0.15, though Ubuntu needs a better autoconfiguration solution: just running alsaconf is fine so why is it being left out of the official packages without incorporating an alternative solution? It's a drag to have to download and compile your own driver and tools for each version, then run the config program.
