Denis, Recompiling the kernel isn't too hard it just takes time. I've done it a bunch of times for my MythTV system due to some special patches needed for my video capture card's remote. Although you then also need to compile the needed drivers. The biggest problem I have is that Ubuntu doesn't include a module source package for madwifi and ath5k didn't support my card last time I checked (might be different with 2.6.24). If that was available it's not too hard to compile using module- assistant. I suppose I could recompile the restricted drivers package, never tried that. I've become less of a tinkerer with Linux and now case less about spending time doing all this.
In case you're interested in compiling a Ubuntu/Debian kernel I found the HowToForge article pretty helpful. It's much easier then it use to be just flat out compiling the kernel with make bzImage. http://www.howtoforge.com/howto_linux_kernel_2.6_compile_debian For nvidia drivers and such do a google search for module assistant. -Eric -- unable to use 4go of memory on Ubuntu 7.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115391 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
