@Henrik

I can confirm this too under Hardy. Under Gnome, the ipod shows up in
the desktop but neither rhythembox or Amarok (which is my default) show
up. Once I eject the ipod through nautilous, the partition is unmounted,
but the drive isn't ejected, I have to manually do that to get the "Do
not disconnect" window to show up.

when trying to force amarok to autodetect the devices, I get: "No new
media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the
DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for
them. You can test this by running "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" in
a Konsole window."

Running the suggestion says:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dcop kded mediamanager fullList
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_890C_F46A
sdb2
ANDREW'S IP

true
/dev/sdb2
/media/ANDREW'S IP
vfat
true

media/removable_mounted
ipod_mount
false

If there's something you need further, I can provide it.
