I am also experiencing this on a Gutsy 32 bit machine (NOT 64 bit), openoffice 2.3.0. I have the problem using the ODBC connector to a Postgres database (no problems with connecting to mysql db). Only have the problem when using 'serial' data type as the primary key so that it will autoincrement (which is highly desirable for me). No problems with using smallint, int or other datatypes as primary key.
I also tried the SDBC driver, but it has a different set of issues.
