OK, I'm a dumbass.. I debugged this with wireshark, and what messed me up was the /etc/resolv.conf. Apparently my router assigned me a search domain that caused this bug.. Please close this bug report as not a bug. I did verify that Dapper Drake installation would behave the same way given the same search domain string.
