I'm seeing similar things here.  I can't raise the volume about 40%
here.  I opened Kmix and watched it while I raised and lowered the
volume with the hotkeys.  It seems it's adjusting the Treble control
along with the master volume (although it's adjusting the Treble at a
different ratio than the master).  The net effect is that once the
Treble control reaches 100%, the master hits 40% and won't go any
higher.  I can manually adjust the volume with Kmix, but this is less
than optimal. :(

I also upgraded Gutsy to Hardy Alpha 5.  Here's my hardware setup:

Asus M2N-E
Athlon 64 X2 4000+
Soundblaster Audigy 4
Microsoft Natural MultiMedia Keyboard (1.0A)
