Ok, so there is a work-a-round which is having to use another program to rip the VCDs but since the original bug report is about copying them directly from the disk I feel this isn't fixed at all from a usability point of view and from the fact that it doesn't deal with my original problem.
If you view it as a missing feature then mark it as such, I would like it to be fixed though so others and I will not have problems copying their VCDs out of the box. If it requires leaving it marked as such in launchpad then fine, that's what a bug tracker is for. In short, there is no need to close valid bugs.
