I've been running 2.6.24-? on gutsy for weeks with no real problems. If you're worried, make sure it doesn't pull too much hardy stuff in... Last I checked, 2.6.24 didn't require very many (any?) package upgrades. (I haven't had a chance to play with the most recent one...)
