Hi... same problem here (Ubuntu 8.04). I discovered, that there are 2 different trash locations. The "~/.Trash" directory which is used by (e.g.) gthumb and "trash:///" (~/.local/share/Trash/files) which is used by nautilus. Only "trash:///" is monitored by the trash applet. This problem is new (to me) since 8.04.
