Error seems to come from /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/displayconfigabstraction.py where the XSetup class is supposed to read the X config from /etc/X11/xorg.conf (default) those are in fact the same conclusion as Harald Seipp. The whole module is broken as the X settings has changed.
