Matthias, I'm not sure I agree with that; there are plenty of Java applications which have no GUI, and which it'd be nice to be able to compile without needing to install all the X stuff. I'm still tooling around with ecj to see if that alone will be suitable for what I'm working on, but if it isn't it'd be nice to have a reasonably "standalone" gcj package.
