Uninstalled updated virtualbox 1.5.6 and reinstalled original version 1.5.4 and shortcuts still not working. Uninstalled virtualbox 1.5.4 and this time deleting manually the folder .virtualbox on my home folder and reinstalled again original version 1.5.4 and shortcuts were back to normal. Updated to 1.5.6 and they stopped work. Considering that the bug may be in the 1.5.6-28266 update, decided to give a try to virtualbox-ose from repo. Uninstalled update and installed ose version using 'add/remove applications'. The bug exists in ose version as well. Thinking that my have identified the bug decided to go back to version 1.5.4. Uninstalled ose version using 'add/remove aplications' and reinstall version 1.5.4 from the original deb package downloaded in December 07 from innotek website. Shortcuts never worked again regardless of how many clean installs of original version 1.5.4-27034.
