Dear Gregg, I finally had time to install Hardy. I activated the extra visual effects and OpenOffice works correctly! I do not have installed the CompizConfig Settings Manager, that does not come with the 8.04, and therefore I don't know whether Workarounds is enabled or not. But anyway, now the special effects work, they are set approximately as I had them using the CompizConfig Settings Manager, and I am satisfied!! I do not want to install something that is not on the beta, otherwise the problem reports might be confusing... Problem is solved, as far as I am concerned. Thanks a lot for your efforts,
