It was suggested to me that one could try running: xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.qc
and/or: setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout ca -variant fr If those two commands do not work, according to Pascal Potvin, the problem would be "hardcoded into xkb".
