I apologize for the long delay, but at the end I got the patched Adept installed in a Kubuntu desktop 7.10 x86 virtual machine (vmware) hosted on both a PC directly connected to internet and a PC connected through a proxy/firewall. I played with them for a while and both worked fine for me. I'd appreciate having that patch officially included in future updates.
