I upgraded my kernel to -12, installed the pulseaudio debugging packages, and ran gdb. Unfortunately, since pulseaudio wouldn't terminate, the 'tee' never actually flushed output to the file. I copy/pasted into a separate buffer. In the attachment you can see the first invocation and then the second under gdb. I rebooted in between invocations. Neither would budge under Control-C or Control-\ nor could I list the process table with ps.
I tried catting various /proc/PID/cmdline files until I found one that would hang. I then tried 'kill -9' on that PID, but it wouldn't die. Typing 'ps' under getty made no difference. The symbol packages I installed: libpulse0-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb libpulse-browse0-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb libpulsecore5-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb libpulse-mainloop-glib0-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-esound-compat-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-module-gconf-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-module-hal-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-module-lirc-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-module-x11-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-module-zeroconf-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb pulseaudio-utils-dbgsym_0.9.9-1ubuntu2_i386.ddeb ** Attachment added: "Two pulseaudio invocations" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12601051/pulseaudio.txt -- pulseaudio will not die, hangs ps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
