Its not very clear what application you are referring to. Is it gnome-mplayer? 
Is it mplayer? Or is it some other media player?
Also, I understand the problem only happens if you try to open a video (with a 
name that includes a space) from a nautilus window, by double-clicking it with 
your left mouse button, correct? No problem if you open the file from within 
the application, or perhaps by using "Open with ..." with the right mouse 
button?
