DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

gnome-settings-daemon:
  Installed: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1

The gnome-settings-daemon is reporting an error starting when I login to
gnome. The message is as follows:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.

I have looked through my home directory and I have no permissions
problems on any files. I have tried re-installing the gnome-settings-
daemon. At this point I have no idea where I should look to correct this
problem. It has only started since I upgraded a few days ago to Hardy.
Generally most things work with the exception of not being able to lock
the screen.

Thanks
