Public bug reported: yesterday (13 march 2008) i upgraded the linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-12-generic packet, and i was not able to start Xorg any more. dmesg'ing i see many errors that concern the fglrx kernel module. the Xorg.0.log is attached. the interesting line is (EE) fglrx(0): Failed to initialize ASIC in kernel. the only way to start Xorg is to create a file containing a line like "blacklist fglrx" in /etc/modprobe.d (but lose AIGLX and compiz).
with the linux-image-2.6.24-12-386 and linux-restricted- modules-2.6.24-12-386 is all ok, the fglrx kernel module is working properly and Xorg (with AIGLX and compiz) starts correctly, without the need to blacklist the fglrx kernel module. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Latest linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-12-generic breaks FGLRX? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
