Public bug reported:

What happened: Multiple "*** glibc detected *** xxx: free(): invalid
pointer: ..." in almost all programs

Version: Hardy Heron as of 2008-03-13
Unknown package

I've upgraded my system from Gutsy to Hardy. To do so i've changed all
occurancies of "gutsy" in /etc/apt/source.list to "hardy" and typed
"sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude full-upgrade". After this process
completed i've restared to new kernel and tried to run "sudo aptitude
full-upgrade". Output is attached.

After this i was not able to make my system work. I've tried LiveCD,
where i've chroot'ed to hd1 and tried to do anything. Almost every
command was throwing "free(): invalid pointer" errors. But when i've
tried to use /bin/sh insted of /bin/bash most of these errors
disappeared, except for downloading of packaged through "aptitude"
(hence i was not able to downgrade my system).

Then i've installed clean version of Ubuntu 7.10 Server and upgraded it
up to Hardy. The system was behaving in the same way (a lot of invalid
pointers).

Feel free to ask for more details.
