Ubuntu includes several monospaced fonts. I guess "Courier 10 Pitch" or
"FreeMono" could be good candidates for you.
Also have a look at the ttf-freefont, xfonts-mona and xfonts-terminus* packages.
If you do not mind, I am marking this bug as "Invalid" now, because I do
not think this is a bug in Ubuntu. In the case that you think it is,
feel free to re-open you bugreport. :)
