The same with me.
I tried ubuntu 7.10, cannot get an ip from ethernet card.
Then I installed Hardy. No problems with ethernet, but no sound and some other
instabilities.
Then i installed Debian in this computer. I got ethernet functioning after
adding the sk98lin driver. But I got a lot of problems with Debian: cannot
suspend, no sound, no wireless, no webcam. etc.: too much work, so i went again
for ubuntu.
I used ubuntu-dell-1525n-intelvideo-reinstall.iso from dell to reinstall,
ethernet did go at home, but after a dist-upgrade, now at work (behind a proxy)
again ethernet cannot get an ip from the server.
I will try again at home.
Too many problems for a computer that comes with ubuntu preinstalled!
I do not want to install 2.6.24 (no sound), until it is more stable.
I'll try again to install the sk98lin driver.
