Public bug reported: this issue is similar to bug report #195308, but in the reports subsequent manual fix, the /etc/hosts file doesn't apear to be the same layout.
Context: HP Pavilion 7965, basically stock, with ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 I did "Update-Manager -d" Upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy last night, appeared to run smoothly at a GUI level.
