On the upstream bug report, it sounds that the issue is not found in the 2.1 intel driver, so reverting to that is a temporary workaround.
To debug this issue, what's needed is someone who can reproduce the issue to git bisect from 2.1 to 2.2.1, and identify which change resulted in this problem.
