Hi der_vegi, My apologies, for some reason I was thinking you were testing an upstream 2.6.25-rc kernel. However, it seems you were testing the upstream 2.6.24.x stable kernel (which is still very helpful). It seems the ubuntu kernel has already been synced with the upstream 2.6.24.3 stable kernel release. So it's odd that you would still be experiencing an error. Let us know the results of your bisect on the ubuntu-kernel. There have been additional patches pulled in to the ubuntu kernel that will make it differ from a vanilla 2.6.24.3 kernel from upstream.
