If java ins't in your path this may be the problem. Netbeans needs Java to run, try adding java to your path.
Also, I made a mistake above the command should have been: java -version Once you have the path set confirm that Sun Java is your default version to do this run: sudo update-alternatives --config java Here is result on my machine: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo update-alternatives --config java There are 4 alternatives which provide `java'. Selection Alternative ----------------------------------------------- * 1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java 2 /usr/bin/gij-4.1 3 /usr/bin/gij-4.2 + 4 /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/java Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number: 1 Using `/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java' to provide `java'. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ The one that is called java-6-sun is the official sun version.
