I have this problem too with intel 3495after upgrade from gutsy: wireless adapter treated as wired, and an "extra" wired interface added. After deleting all lines from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and rebooting, the file was re-created and now there are only two interfaces, eth0 for wired and wlan0 for wireless. However, I still cannot see any access points in the network manager. This problem exists only with Hardy kernel. When I use gutsy kernel the wireless work just fine.
