i think i've either had too much to drink or i've found a fix. (tho i haven't found regressions yet). if we were to get rid of dhcp3 and use udhcp (available in universe) then this is fixed ^-^. udhcpc works in this situation and from my testing... all i think needs to be done is fix ubuntu-minimal's deps to add udhcpc, remove dhcp3 and add a conflict to udhcpc against dhcp3 and then everything will be happy =D
