The command

sudo chmod 777 /usr/Brother/inf/brMFC5440*

did not do anything.

Also when all ubuntu packages are removed.
The Brother mfc5440cnlpr-1.0.2-1.i386.deb -package installed just fine.

But the Brother cupswrapper-package gives this error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo dpkg -i --force-all

So I really cannot test if I may be able to change from "letter" to "A4" with
the Brother packages.
Any solutions for installing the package?
