I'm rather sure this is not a valid bug-report. The driver is a third
party one, ubuntu unfortunately cannot take care of every possible
dependency of apps not provided by ubuntu (and like in this case, non
free ones).

glib1.2 as well as gtk+1.2 are deprecated for a few years now, there is
no longer any upstream-support for these libs, so as a consequence they
were removed from hardy because fixing possible security issues and
other oddities in combination with other apps would require too much
manpower needed for other applications which are much more important
nowadays.

I did not try it yet, but I'm rather sure you can install the gutsy-packages in 
hardy to make the driver work (or you can recompile them based upon the 
gutsy-source-packages for hardy).
The best solution would be of course, if canon would provide updated drivers, 
but I'm not sure how likely something like this is.
