i also have the same problem,
pitivi crashes if i:
1. attempt to drag something from the clips box to the timeline
2. attempt to play a video file (any format) from the clips box
(right click on the file and choose play)
here is the output i get from running it in a terminal:
$ pitivi
JACK tmpdir identified as [/dev/shm]
JACK tmpdir identified as [/dev/shm]
python: pcm_pulse.c:500: pulse_hw_params: Assertion `!pcm->stream' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
