If you want to use the nvidia module you net to install also
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-28-k7 or in general linux-restricted-modules-k7
If that doesn't fix your problem can you test it with an other Ubuntu Version?
For example with the latest Ubuntu developer version Hardy beta one?
You can download them from http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04/
If your grafikcard is not working, can you please provide the following
informations:
What is the output from uname -a ?
What is the output from lspci ?
